Froghall Wharf to the Black Lion Pub in Consall

I found this to be a fantastic walk, I am sure you will enjoy it too. There are two ways of doing this trip. The first way is dead easy, just follow the canal and 2 and a half miles later you reach your destination. I recommend this stroll and is an excellent way to spend a sunny afternoon. The second method is to do what we did and trek across the open countryside.  This way is considerably more challenging and does require the use of an Ordinance Survey map. Although more difficult the second method is well worth the effort and you could always return to your car via the towpath.

There are many walks to explore. I recommend that you take the time to investigate the Visitor Centre. They would be able to supply you with travel guides and further details about Froghall Wharf and the surrounding area.

We found that water was supplied for dogs next to the toilet block.

We found all the routes to be well signposted. 

This area is very pretty indeed. 

We left the 'beaten track' and followed the Ordnance Survey Map over open fields and farms. Our route was well sign posted and the styles were conveniently positioned and easy to climb.  Bandit is an older dog and even he managed to get traverse each obstacle. However, a larger dog may need extra help if squeezing and climbing is not his thing.  It would be helpful if you could tell the readers about your experience too.

The small bridge gives you access to Caldon Canal.  We followed the towpath back to our car. This area is of outstanding beauty. It is one of those places you could revisit again and again. For more information click here. However, if you did not want to walk back you could always take the train.

Different dogs require different amounts of attention. Puppies would require more stimulation and security as they settle into their surroundings.  On the other hand adult dogs may require less attention.  However, this may not always be the case because different breeds may require different stimulus.

Therefore, it is vital that you do your research before you take on a dog.  After all a dog is for life...
