Downs Banks near Stone Staffordshire

This is one of my most favourite places to venture with the dogs.

Downs Banks has much to offer the dog walker.  There are many routes to be had through woods and open fields. Each time I return to this area I always find a new and interesting path to explore.  You and your dog(s) will love the location and for me it is an excellent standby when I want a safe and reliable place to go.

The walk we took today began at the ford on Wash Dale Lane  :

Gate is on the left behind the tree

We went through the gate (behind the tree in the top picture) and proceeded into the woods.  The stream that runs through the Downs presents wonderful paddling potential for Belle and Bandit. Children would love to play in the stream too, but wellies are recommended!

We followed the path up stream for about 35 minutes and found some stepping stones.

You could use a small bridge to cross the stream too. The bridge is just a little further on.

On our return to the ford we took in the pleasant surroundings.

Various paths leading through the woods

This is a description of one of the shortest walks you could undertake, taking only an hour at a steady pace. Your adventure may lead you to follow a path away from the stream and high up into the wooded hillside.  The views from the top of the Downs are outstanding.

Downs Banks is also known as 'Barlaston Downs'.
